1 in 6 Adults in Hawaii Struggle with Reading and Writing

Hawaii Literacy's five programs - Adult Literacy, Bookmobile, English Language Learner, Family Literacy Libraries, and Digital Literacy focus on those with the lowest literacy skills and help underserved children prepare for and succeed in school, give adults a second chance to learn to read and write, and train hundreds of literacy volunteers to teach in our communities. We provide books, mentors, literacy promotion, and the skills needed to achieve life goals.

Thank you to our University of Hawaii athletes who gave back to their community by spending time with our keiki at the Hawaii Literacy Family Library. Thank you for being positive role models and for showing our young ones that anything is possible with dedication, perseverance and hard work.

Congratulations to our very own Rina Moefu. Recently, Rina attended the National Parents Union Conference and was awarded the 2024 Rising Parent Advocate Award. She is indeed a true advocate for not only our keiki, but their parents as well. This is an award well deserved. Hawaii Literacy is proud of you!

We would like to thank the numerous volunteers who have given countless hours of their time to help Hawaii Literacy. As a non-profit, we depend on and appreciate those who give unselfishly, whether it was reading to our keiki, stuffing envelopes, sorting books, helping out on the Bookmobile, tutoring a learner, attending an event, or helping with one of the many areas that require an extra hand, we are grateful. We would also like to thank our service members and our interns for their help as well.
